Frequently Asked Questions
Psychodrama Training Groups – FAQs for Trainees
1. Who are these trainings designed for?
These trainings are intended for licensed mental health professionals, clinical interns, graduate students in mental health programs, and allied professionals seeking to learn or deepen their skills in psychodrama and experiential methods. No prior psychodrama experience is required unless specified.
2. Are these training groups considered therapy?
No. While the process is experiential and may evoke emotional insight, these groups are not therapy. The primary purpose is educational and professional skill development. Participants are encouraged to seek personal therapy separately if needed.
3. Will I be expected to share personal material?
Self-disclosure is always optional. While personal exploration can enhance the learning process, you are never required to share beyond what feels professionally appropriate and emotionally safe for you.
4. What methods are used in the training?
Trainings are grounded in classical and modern psychodrama techniques and may also integrate other action methods such as sociometry, role theory, and experiential group processes. Trainings often include didactic teaching, group warm-ups, demonstrations, supervised practice, and group discussion.
5. How is confidentiality handled in training groups?
Confidentiality and safety are core values in our training environment. Participants are expected to uphold professional ethical standards and agree not to disclose any personal content shared by others in the group. This supports trust, safety, and respect within the learning community. However, because of the experiential nature of psychodrama trainings and workshops, full confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
6. Will I receive CE credit for attending?
Eligible participants will receive a certificate upon full participation and completion of any required evaluations. CE credits are approved for the Florida 491 Board only. If you are a member of another board, please check with your board prior to attending a training event to ensure reciprocity. Partial CE credit is not available, in accordance with most licensing board guidelines. Participants will be eligible to receive psychodrama training credits that can be applied towards certification.
7. What’s the difference between a training group and a workshop?
A training group typically meets multiple times (e.g., monthly or over several weekends) and emphasizes ongoing skill development, relationship-building, and progressive learning. A workshop is usually a one-time or short-term event with a specific focus or theme. Both are experiential and educational in nature. Training groups add an extra emphasis on certification and supervision.
8. Is participation in role play required?
Active participation in the method is encouraged to support learning, but you will always have the choice of how and when to engage. Observing, assisting, or participating in action pieces may offer valuable learning without requiring personal enactment.
9. What if I have never done psychodrama before?
No problem! Many participants are new to psychodrama. Trainings are structured to introduce the foundations and build competence in a supportive, paced, and professional environment.
10. Can I use what I learn in my clinical work?
Yes. Trainings are designed to help you integrate psychodramatic and experiential methods into your current practice, whether with individuals, groups, or systems. Ethical and clinical applications are discussed throughout.
11. What if I need to cancel my registration?
Please refer to our Cancellation Policy for full details. Refunds and credits are offered on a sliding scale based on the timing of your cancellation. CE credit cannot be awarded unless the full training is attended.
12. Are these trainings part of formal certification in psychodrama?
Trainings may count toward certification hours with recognized organizations such as the American Board of Examiners in Psychodrama, Sociometry and Group Psychotherapy (ABE). If certification is your goal, please inquire in advance about which trainings meet those standards.
